"I've been recording stuff at Adrian Akkerman's Incubator Recordings for five years and the results have always been professional. He's a solid engineer who knows the ropes and he's surrounded himself with an exotic galaxy of analogue effects, filters and tape delays.
I've recorded bits and pieces of the True Spirit's "Last Frontier" album there, as well as parts of the first Sepiatone album "In Sepiatone". Mostly, I've recorded vocals and effects at the Incubator, also electronics and direct-line stuff; Adrian's got a great array of microphones and some great pre-amps and he really knows how to pull a sound out of this stuff.
For the True Spirit's "Goldstreet Sessions" album, Adrian and I set up his recording gear in a big empty house and put huge ambient sounds to tape without too much hassle. That album has been released worldwide, which just goes to show that you don't need super expensive analogue studios to create great records (although it certainly doesn't hurt) - instead, you need decent equipment and a sympathetic engineer who understands where the artists(s) coming from. Add a little imagination to the process and you'll get the picture of where Incubator Recordings is at.
Adrian is also a musician so he knows both sides of the story when it comes to interpreting what artists are really after. I've enjoyed working at the Incubator and I know many, many people have enjoyed the results. I'll be back there again at some point in the future and like always, searching for sounds that have yet to be made, will experiment with the Incubator's sound palette and know I'll eventually find what I'm looking for. Because a studio like this gives you the chance to research the practical elements of your vision without feeling like you're wasting time. It's a place to germinate new creations.
